SNOWBIRD, UTAH

THE MEMBERS MEETING

The 1998 ASP Meeting has been declared "The Members' Meeting" by Frank Gasparro, Past-President and Program Chairman. Features that make this the "Members' Meeting" are readily apparent in the selection of scientific topics and speakers and the incorporation of new meeting ideas -- suggestions that you (the members) recommended. Especially important is a less hectic meeting schedule with time for enjoying the natural beauty of the Snowbird Resort and surrounding mountains.

This year two exciting new activities have been added to the meeting agenda - Guided Nature Walks and a Young Investigators Luncheon. We encourage you to participate and take full advantage of these activities.

YOUNG INVESTIGATORS LUNCHEON

On Sunday, July 12, 1998 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. a special mentoring luncheon is planned. All Associate Members registered for the meeting are cordially invited to attend. Lunch will be sponsored by the ASP.

Senior Investigators will be invited to attend and a seating plan will be devised to create a friendly mix of Young and Senior Investigators.

More information will be included in issues of the ASP Newsletter and subsequent mailings to registered participants of the meeting.

For now - mark your calendars for this first time event planned by the ASP Mentoring Committee, Nancy Oleinick, Chair.

GUIDED NATURE WALKS

Guided hikes offer an excellent overview of the Snowbird area and are a wonderful way to complement your day with plenty of fresh mountain air. Snowbird's guides will select a trail that matches your fitness level and features colorful wildflowers and abundant wildlife. The guides will also explain Little Cottonwood Canyon folklore, geology and mining history. What a wonderful way to take a break during the meeting and learn something about the area.

Guided Walks are $6.00 per person and include an experienced guide.

Nature Walk #1: Sunday, July 12, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Nature Walk #2: Sunday, July 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Nature Walk #3: Tuesday, July 14, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Nature Walk #4: Wednesday, July 15, 7:00 - 8:00 a.m.

To join one of the ASP Guided Nature Walks, complete the enclosed Nature Walk Reservation Form (centerfold section of this booklet), enclose your payment and mail with your meeting registration to the ASP Office.

DEADLINE: Limited number of spaces are available, so sign up now. Nature Walk Reservation Form and payment must be received by June 23, 1998. CANCELLATION: Fees are non-refundable after June 30, 1998. Fees are fully refundable if minimum numbers per walk are not met.

RIDE SNOWBIRD'S AERIAL TRAM

Sometime during the meeting, take an hour or so and ride Snowbird's scenic Aerial Tram to the top of 11,000 foot high Hidden Peak (part of the Wasatch Mountains). On a clear day you can see 100 miles. The 125 passenger tram glides easily to the summit in only 10 minutes. Then you are free to enjoy the magnificent vistas until you are ready to catch another tram down. Perhaps, you might like to hike down for a unique trek back to Snowbird Village. Price is $10.00 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Tram Lift.
