CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Program Committee invites all interested persons to submit abstracts according to the procedures described in the following material.

AUTHORITY TO SUBMIT

A member of the Society (Regular or Associate) may submit no more than one abstract as either the presenter of the abstract or the sponsor of a paper by non-member authors. Members may co-author additional abstracts which other members are presenting or sponsoring. Abstracts authored exclusively by non-members must be sponsored. No member may present or sponsor more than one abstract. A member should not sign more than one abstract.

PREPARATION

Abstracts will be printed in the Abstract Supplement by the photo-offset method and therefore will be reproduced exactly as they are submitted. Authors MUST use the enclosed abstract form and carefully follow instructions. Two copies are included in the centerfold section of this booklet for your convenience.

SUBMISSION

Submit the original typed abstract and three copies in an envelope with cardboard to protect from damage. DO NOT FOLD. Mail to: American Society for Photobiology, BioTech Park, Suite 9, 1021 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30901 USA. Additional forms are available from this address, or may be obtained by calling the Society Office at (706) 722-7511, FAX (706) 722-7515.

DEADLINE

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is February 24, 1998. Because of the publication deadline, submitted abstracts as well as Invited Speaker's abstracts which are not received by the deadline date may not be published in the Abstract Supplement. If you find you are having unavoidable problems with the deadline, please call the Society Office prior to the deadline date and we will try to honor your request.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER TRAVEL AWARDS

The deadline for receipt of abstracts from candidates who are applying for a travel award is also February 24, 1998. Abstracts received after this date will NOT be considered for an award.

The candidate must submit an abstract of a report suitable for presentation at the meeting and must be an author of the abstract. If an award is granted, the recipient must present the report at the meeting.

To be judged for a Travel Award, the following must be received a) Original abstract and 3 photocopies, b) Nomination letter from faculty member and c) Application form (page 15 of this booklet). Nominations from faculty members should provide data with particular emphasis on those qualities of the nominee which suggest that the candidate will ultimately make significant contributions in the area of photobiology. Abstracts received after the deadline or incomplete applications will not be considered for a Travel Award. The Travel Award Box on the abstract form must be checked to be considered for a Travel Award.

ASP DIVISIONS

Indicate in the space marked "ASP Division" on the abstract form the Divison in which your work belongs. This will insure your paper is correctly assigned. Select from the following list:

A. Photochemistry, Photophysics and Phototechnology

B. Photosensory Biology

C. Photosynthesis and Photoconversion

D. Photomedicine

E. Environmental Photobiology and UVR Effects

WORKS IN PROGRESS

Any person wishing to make a Poster Presentation of Works-in-Progress is invited to do so. Members may present or sponsor a Works-in-Progress presentation even if they are presenting or sponsoring a regular proffered paper. Non-Members may present a Works-in-Progress poster even if they are presenting a regular proffered paper; however the Works-in-Progress presentation must be sponsored by a member of the Society.

No abstract is required. A listing of Works-in-Progress posters will appear in the final program.

Please complete form on page 17 of this booklet and mail to the address indicated. Deadline for receipt of forms is June 30, 1998.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT

In order to be sure that we have received your abstract, you may wish to use the "Abstract Confirmation Card" included in the centerfold section of this booklet. Complete the address portion, affix sufficient return postage and attach to a copy of your abstract at the time of submission.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

All abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee, Dr. Albert Girotti, Chair. Authors will receive notification of acceptance and presentation data as soon as the final program is prepared.

PRESENTATION

This meeting offers an opportunity to present data in platform or poster sessions. Authors submitting abstracts should check the appropriate box on the abstract form. The Program Committee will designate the presentation after considering all abstracts for topic, grouping, etc. Please note that some symposia will have space for inclusion of short contributions.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Abstracts scheduled for presentation in poster sessions will be grouped by topic, numbered and listed in the program and published in the abstract book in the usual manner. Your abstract confirmation letter will inform you of the time and place for your poster session.

INVITED SPEAKERS

Invited speakers who are members are invited to submit a regular proffered abstract for either a platform or poster session, or to sponsor a paper for a non-member. Non-member speakers are also invited to submit a regular proffered abstract, but it must be sponsored by a member who is not presenting or sponsoring any other proffered abstract. These proffered abstracts are in addition to the abstract of the talk that you are giving.

PUBLICATION

All abstracts accepted for presentation will be published in a supplementary issue of the journal, PHOTOCHEMISTRY AND PHOTOBIOLOGY.

REJECTION OF ABSTRACTS

An abstract may be rejected for publication either because it is uninformative or because of errors, such as incorrect abbreviations, misspelled words or failure to follow the instructions for typing. Abstracts unsuitable for direct reproduction may not be accepted.
