Before We Begin...

Before you begin the presentation, each presenter will talk about how he or she became interested in medicine.

To break the ice, you can elicit answers to the following questions or any questions you may think of on your own. Be sure to take your audience into account (e.g. if it’s a pre-med group, most of them ARE planning to go to college) :

• Is anybody planning to go to college? Why (not)?
• Do any of you know what you want to do as a career? What and why?
• Has anybody thought about going to medical school?
• What kind of medical care have you received?
• Have you ever had to be in the hospital?

Make it clear that you WILL be using medical terms and will do your best to define them as you go, but tell them not to hesitate to ask ANY question.

Clear up any misconceptions that may surface about college and post-graduate education like cost, work, etc.
